Kevin has prepared a range of process engineering calculations including heat and mass balance, 2-phase and self-venting flow, pumping of chlorine saturated brine solutions and the design of a chlorate destruction reactor. In addition he has sized gas control valves for saturated hydrogen and chlorine duties.
Kevin has also designed for zone 1 and zone 2 hazardous areas, which have included reactor, storage, distillation and aerial abatement facilities. Specifications also detailed fire fighting equipment. Relief and vent systems were designed using API safety guidelines.
Front-end design and safety case work has been undertaken for BNFL’s B38 plant. Options were developed for the safe management of high liquor levels and removal of liquor to an external treatment facility. Kevin assisted in substantiating B38’s heat management systems; a Process Engineering Design Assessment Report was prepared to support the B38 safety case. Kevin developed ventilation and heat transfer computational fluid dynamic specifications in order to help underpin the substantiation process.
Kevin has specified gas control valves for saturated hydrogen and chlorine duties.
Fire and relief valve design has been undertaken using the American Petroleum Institute (API) safety guidelines.
